The Partei für Soziale Gleichheit (Socialist Equality Party) is standing in the European election on June 13 with a national slate of candidates in Germany. The aim of our election campaign is to lay the basis for a new party that represents the interests of working people.
The election manifesto, which the PSG has drawn up with its British sister organisation, the Socialist Equality Party (SEP), is addressed to all the peoples of Europe. A central component of the election campaign is also our collaboration with the Socialist Equality Party in the USA, which is standing candidates in the American presidential and congressional elections this year.
The struggle against war and social devastation, which is so central to the lives of millions of people, requires a fundamental political re-orientation. The PSG advocates the conscious working through and break with the conceptions of Social Democracy which have marked the last century and whose failure is so obvious today. Consequently our election manifesto outlines the following fundamental programmatic points:
• Under today's conditions of globalization, a peaceful society in which social equality and justice prevail cannot be established within a national framework. It requires a worldwide movement against imperialism.
• Social achievements and democratic rights can be only defended if economic life is transformed according to socialist principles.
• Such a programme presupposes that broad sections of working people act jointly, consciously and politically.
